Oakwood Surgery The Care for all the family, from sapling to great oak.

Our Services

Our job is to care for ill people but we like to go further than that for our patients.  As such, we have taken on a number of optional NHS services that not all GP practices provide to allow us to treat a broader range of medical problems. Whilst we are not obliged to, we have to chosen to do this because we feel that our patients deserve much more than just basic care.

STOMACH ULCERS

Helicobacter Pylori is a bacterium that sometimes lives in the gut and causes stomach ulcers.

There’s a test for that, and we do it.

DEMENTIA

We understand that the effects of dementia are devastating.

That’s why we screen for it.

You don’t have to ask us - we already do it.

MENTAL HEALTH

Patients with severe mental health difficulties are much more likely to suffer from other diseases.

That’s why we offer in depth physical health checks.

MINOR ILLNESS

Not everyone needs to see a doctor.  To make it easier and quicker to be seen, our nurses are trained to deal with minor illness so that you have more options on who can help.

LIQUID NITROGEN

Liquid nitrogen is great at quickly burning off small but bothersome skin lesions.

Our nurses are highly trained in treating wounds so that you don’t have to travel to the hospital when you should be resting!

BLOOD TESTS

Hospitals are busy and dirty places.  So, we offer blood tests in house to save you from yet another hospital visit.

We even do blood tests requests on behalf of the hospital so they don’t have to.

ECG

Electronic tracing of the heart.

SPIROMETRY

Lung function tests.

ENHANCED PRESCRIBING

There are a number of drugs that GPs cannot prescribe for patients without specialist support.

We’ve signed up to working with local specialists to ensure that you get timely access to these medicines.

This is a specialised investigation that helps us to understand your uterus a bit better.  It’s usually undertaken in a hospital.  We’re lucky to have Dr Phillips who does these.
