The Oakwood Surgery
Registrar Training Handbook
“Excellence in education”
The Surgery was founded in the 1970’s by Dr Cambell who ran the practice form a tiny building on Cantley Lane. Dr Cambell was later joined in partnership by Dr Hasenfuss and through the success of their partnership Dr’s Harris and Hamlin joined the team followed by Dr Phillips and Dr Khan.
Through years of change Dr Phillips has survived to remain our senior partner with Dr Harding who joined in 2011 and Dr Eggitt in 2012. Thus stands our current team today.
The current surgery was built in 1991 for the specific purpose of provision of family medicine to the residents of Bessacarr and Cantley; whom comprise diverse social and cultural backgrounds ranging from the most deprived to the most affluent of Doncaster.
Medical care is currently provided under the auspices of a General Medical Services Contract and a number of smaller “bolt on contracts”, or enhanced services. These contracts are between The Oakwood Surgery partnership and various other contracting bodies, including the Area Team of the NHS Commissioning Board, the Doncaster NHS Clinical Commissioning Group and Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. As a provider of NHS primary medical services we are not permitted to offer private medical care to our patients beyond the scope of that which we have been contracted.
Training at the practice has been ongoing over many years with student doctors, foundation doctors and General Practice trainees. After a brief spell of absence, GP Registrars have regained residency at the Oakwood Surgery from February 2014 with Dr Eggitt as our GP Trainer
